USS STINGRAY WIP

This was the second model I have created but this time I used someone else's design (JRL3001). I did this as when I first saw it in the 2D section of Scifi-Meshes forum I fell in love with it (or just liked it a lot!) and when I found out JRL3001 could not yet model in 3D I decided to ask him if I could have a go at creating it.

USS STINGRAY WIP 1
As I said above I did not design this ship it is JRL3001's after seeing a post in Scifi-Meshes forum I decided to have a go at making it and this WIP is how I did it.
1.) The saucer (Red) was created from two spheres with a hemisphere setting of nearly 1.
2.) The nacelles (Pink) where created from a warped half cylinder.
3.) The green things where created from a half sphere stretched and warped.
4.) Each yellow tube was created from two tapered cylinders with half a stretched sphere on the end.
5.) Both the light blue and purple sections where created using splines and LOTS of time!
6.) The dark blue section is just a tapered prism.
7.) The brown parts where created from a bent cylinder a hacked up cylinder and some splines.
8.) Now you are up to date with the WIP I will continue.
The weapons array was created using box modeling. I originally smoothed it all out but after looking at the drawings again it looked like it was suppose to look blocky so I removed all of the smoothing to get this.

USS STINGRAY WIP 3
Here is the bridge and shuttle bay. The bottom of the bridge is a cut down prism and the top is some stretched and squished spheres and cylinder. Then the main section is a tapered box. The small landing section in-front of the shuttle bay was created using splines.
Some Boolean and then the bottom thing is made of a bent cylinder and a stretch triangle thing…

K now I have done the emergency vents on top of the warp nacelles (top right) by Booleaning…. =) and then some primitives (standard shapes). The top left is something to do with the impulse engines ;-) (It is on the original design) Then the bottom left is err some kinda emergency ejection hatches for the torpedoes and finaly we come to the bottom right. This is (or will be) the windows for the mess hall.
This is a perfect example of the AMAZING Boolean at work! The before has SOOOOOOOO many errors as you can see it is not very pretty is it? After correcting all of the error (over 1 hours worth) and some re-working of the smoothing of the faces I got a nice looking warp nacelle.

This is the impulse engines emergency vents. Created from lots of small boxes.
This was my first attempt at texturing and I have also started the mess hall windows.

USS STINGRAY WIP 9
I have now redone the textures and the windows as well as creating some phases.
Messed around with the textures and created the… errr… hand phaser shaped thing from the bottom.

USS STINGRAY WIP 11
This is the whole top of the textured saucer.
This is the texture for the deflector array. This texture was designed and created by JRL3001.

USS STINGRAY WIP 13
I have done LOTS more texturing for the saucer and am VERY pleased with the results. All I need now is some rotating bits and we will have are selves a UFO!
LOOK LOADS more textures and even some glows… :-)

K now I have finished the weapons pod. I cut the holes for the torpedo launchers out using Boolean. Also finished the texturing.
This is a top view of the now compleat ship.

USS STINGRAY WIP Finnished 2
And this is a bottom view.
After some suggestions from the good people at Scifi-meshes.com I re-did the bridge to make it glow… I know it is not very realistic but come on it is star trek! :D
